Two Undervalued Teams on the World Series Futures Board

Scott Morris | May 30, 2015

Major League Baseball has played two months of the regular season, which means only about one quarter of the games have been played to date.

The season is long and a number of teams have started playing well early but will likely not be competing for the postseason when October rolls around. However, there will be teams that started slow who will get hot and reach the playoffs.

Due to the long season, there are often opportunities throughout it to find value on the MLB futures board. Below are two teams that are good values at this moment on the World Series Futures board.

The two teams are not the top teams on the board, but two that currently have good value and are underpriced.

St. Louis Cardinals

The Cardinals have the best record in MLB but are listed on many futures boards as the fourth best favorite at 9 to 1 to win the World Series. There are plenty of other talented teams but this team cannot be overlooked. This season St. Louis is 19-5 at home after defeating the Dodgers on Friday night.

The injury to Adam Wainwright does and will hurt all season but the lack of an outright ace on the pitching staff is the club’s on weakness.

The lineup for St. Louis is strong top to bottom, as Jason Heyward has to hit eighth on occasion. Kolton Wong is becoming a true MLB star and you cannot get more reliable than Matt Carpenter. Matt Holiday has reached based in 43 straight games to start the season.

Cleveland Indians

At 25 to 1, the Cleveland Indians are a very solid undervalued choice. After the first month of the season, the Indians were the biggest disappointment in all of baseball.

However, the Indians have battled back and with a young rotation led by Corey Kluber the Indians will be tough to score runs on. Danny Salazar and Carlos Carrasco are also a talented pair on the mound. With Trevor Bauer getting better with each start, this might be the American League’s best starting rotation.

Defensively the Indians have had their problems, but if they can work that out, they will be even stronger. Jason Kipnis is starting to hit the ball well again and should lead the Indians offensive charge.

In the AL Central, Minnesota will not keep up their current pace and the Detroit Tiger have too many holes. Kansas City is strong by do not count out a Terry Francona team.
